Rad Ned: Surf and Turf Demo
A downloadable RadNed
About the Game:
One day, back when he was just a kid, Ned sat on his momâs couch, snacking on some cheese-flavored puffs (totally not Cheetos™ for legal reasons), lost in the glow of the television.
Channel surfing through the static, he was suddenly ambushed by the sight of legends — the greatest surfers alive — shredding waves like there was no tomorrow.
In that instant, something clicked. Ned knew what he had to do: win the biggest surfing championship on the planet.
If not… well, maybe selling sea shells on the sea shore wouldnât be the worst life either...
Dev Note:
No AI used for this project. Every piece of Art, OST and Coding been made entirely by humans, no clankers involved.
"From the very moment we saw the theme of the Jam, we knew we couldnât go the obvious route of a game where âwavesâ are just a horde counter for enemies coming at you. Instead, we gave ourselves a lot of creative freedom to develop something that captures the essence of 90s âcoolâ — a time that gifted us with underground mascot games that did everything they could to be as radical as possible, like Chester Cheetah, Cool Spot, ToeJam & Earl, and more.
With this aesthetic in mind, our artist, Breno Axel, aimed to use a âfake pre-renderâ technique, simulating effects from SNES classics like Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3, without actually relying on 3D modeling.
As the musician, I focused on sticking closely to classic surf rock presets. I deliberately avoided lowering the bit rate, so the music isnât trying to emulate a 4th-gen console — the goal isnât to make the game feel old, just to satirize the retro style.
Our main gameplay inspiration came from the Catchinâ Waves minigame in the now-defunct Club Penguin (hate you, Disney), though we also drew heavily from countless hours spent on the Surfâs Up PS2 game during our childhood.
We would have loved to implement more mechanics and unique features, but being a short Jam, weâre satisfied with what weâve accomplished. We hope everyone has fun and enjoys the experience!"
